Justin Spelman is due diligence analyst with the Rockies Venture Club. He earned Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees from the Colorado School of Mines in Systems Engineering specializing in optics. He is passionate about working on enjoyable projects that have a positive impact on the world.
Most recently, Justin founded a non-profit organization, named Village Science, to initiate innovative projects around science, education, and technology in the Lao PDR. He led the development of a novel Wi-Fi hotspot that broadcasts educational materials in schools and libraries across Laos and facilitated educational workshops that influenced thousands of local teachers and students. He now serves on the board of directors.
While in Laos, Justin produced a pilot episode of a Lao-language television program named Science Kid, and worked on consulting projects with the World Bank to analyze the livelihood opportunities and nutritional states of households in rural Laotian villages.
As an optical systems engineer with Ball Aerospace, Justin was part of the team that built the CALIPSO satellite, which has been providing insights into the role atmospheric aerosols play in regulating Earth’s climate.
